Day 45: Soaking up the... water

I feel almost guilty for not going out on days that I'm not working. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because I'm in a different country and I think I should be making the most of it - wet or dry. But it was raining quite heavily for pretty much the whole day today so I think I can be excused.

I thought I'd escaped from this weather!

I packed for a summer holiday, not a monsoon! I only have dolly shoes and flip flops, so I am stranded at home anyway unless I want to go outside barefoot. Actually, I've seen many Latvian girls taking off their shoes when it is raining. I could fit right in!

The horror on his poor little face.

I do like the rain sometimes... when I'm inside. Listening to it lightly tapping on the windows is really soothing and calming. So calming that I almost fell asleep earlier on just sitting on my bed. What woke me up was this very thought: is it the rain making that noise or water dripping from my fridge?

It was the rain, but the thought itself gave me the motivation to finally to break out of my procrastinating state and defrost the fridge... again. Mop at the ready, I opened the door, took everything out and laid down a tea towel to soak up the excess water. My milk expires tomorrow, so instead of letting it go off, I put it in the coldest place I could this off - the thawing freezer compartment.

How inventive of me!

Whilst checking that I wasn't flooding the hallway every half an hour, I decided to cook dinner with all the leftover ingredients I had and this was the outcome:

My version of Omurice - a Japanese dish

Ladies and gentlemen, after hours of defrosting and mopping I present to you my de-iced and de-watered fridge:

Just like brand new.

I just hope I don't open it tomorrow morning to find it in exactly the same state as before.

I achieved my aims for the week: I decided on a house, signed my contract, booked my flights and started filming my new film. My aims for this week coming are to: 1) stock up on food for my newly defrosted fridge, 2) complete filming for this project, 3) meet up with some of my Latvian friends - it's been too long! and 4) continue thinking of ideas for my Latvian-style birthday in August!
