That would be so sad... |
I only have just over a month until I have to be in France so I'm so glad that it's finally moving forward!
And so to today. I decided to make porridge for breakfast this morning, which swiftly took me back to my childhood days. But these weren't just any porridge oats. Oh no, they were genuine Finnish porridge oats. It turned out pretty well actually... before a huge disaster struck! I spooned out all the cooked porridge from the pot into a plastic bowl. Then, whilst washing up, I left the bowl on the same hob where I was cooking the porridge, without realising that it was still boiling hot. There was an odd smell in the air. I turned around and the bowl had MELTED and the porridge splurged everywhere. Only these sorts of things would happen to moi.
As I was working a bit more on one project, something caught my eye. I stayed so still that only my eyes were moving. There was a spider on the wall. Let's just say I'm not the biggest fan of spiders. After my initial screams died down, I scooped it up with the first thing I could get my hands on - a scrap piece of paper. It jumped on the paper but then ran across and underneath it as if to find shelter or something. It's like what my dad used to say: "the spider is more scared of you than you are of it". I didn't want to kill it; I just wanted it out of my sight.
Spiderman must be his role model. |
Despite destroying crockery and being scared by a creature 100 times smaller than me, this quote rounds off another interesting day:
"No matter what kind of difficult situation one may find oneself in, some opening, some opportunity to fight one’s way out, can always be found. What’s most important is to hold fast to hope, to face the future with courage"
- Daisaku Ikeda
I spoke too soon. I just saw something fly by my face - a HUUUGE mosquito. I picked up the tea towel and started waving it around me. I was that scared that my scream wasn't even coming out. I moved all the furniture to find this monster, but it was nowhere to be seen until I turned around, looked up and there it was, happily sitting on my wall thinking of a master plan to eat me alive! I picked up my laptop, stood in the middle of my room Googling "how to kill mosquitoes". In the end, I picked up the biggest baking tray I own, looked at it for about 10 minutes (partially crying) and went for it. It is now wedged between my chest of drawers and the wall, with two of its legs still stuck to the wall. As long as it's dead, it can stay there for all I care.
I just went to listen to some music to slow my heart rate down just a little bit and "Westlife - Flying Without Wings" has been suggested for me to listen to... Dad, some advice would be great right about now!
